Inventory and Materials Flow Leader

This is a fantastic opportunity to work at the heart of a fast-paced family run business, managing all inventory related activities for manufacturing, with the aim to optimise inventory and material flow. You will provide day to day leadership and direction to the Material Replenishment team in line with operational/business targets and objectives, whilst always striving to achieve best practice, leading the facilitation of ‘Lean’ tool training within the area 


We are looking for someone who has knowledge and experience in Change Management along with ‘Lean Manufacturing’ and ‘Continuous Improvement’. You must come from a strong manufacturing background and implemented change to the flow of materials and implemented new techniques and tools to achieve this.

Reporting to the Manufacturing Manager you will be responsible for the day to day management of 3 Senior Materials Replenishment Coordinators and 3 Replenishment Coordinators. You will be expected to maintain close and effective personal working relationships with your team and at all levels of across the organisation. You will require excellent communication skills including the ability to influence to at all level and to communicate technical complex and sensitive information.

  • Manage inventory levels for externally supplied parts (value £40 million), liaising with relevant stakeholders
  • Manage the improvement of material flow for internally/externally supplied parts and implementing relevant processes accordingly
  • To lead, coach and motivate the material replenishment team with a strong focus on employee engagement
  • Optimise PI accuracy through implementation of appropriate system, training and root cause analysis
  • Ensure high standard of stock integrity to minimise stock loss
  • Manage stock levels in line with obsolescence and NPI outputs
  • Create, report and monitor KPI’s
  • Work closely with the manufacturing management team to drive and cultivate a continuous improvement ‘mindset’ in the area

The Person

  • Worked in a modern manufacturing, engineering environment
  • Experienced in lean technologies, especially material flow and inventory with the ability to train others in those principles
  • Experienced in 5S, SMED, Poke-Yoke, Cell orchestration and in leading a small to medium sized team
  • Ability to plan, prioritise and organise workloads
  • Proven track record in implementing and embedding Continuous improvement
  • Good understanding of health and safety principles and procedures
  • Capable of interpreting and reporting data
  • Proven track record in change management, continuous improvement
  • Well-developed people management skills – credibility as a leader
  • Data analysis
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to interact at all levels

The Offer

Salary is circa £36,000 for 37 hours per week (8am – 4.45pm Mon-Thurs and a 1.30pm finish every Friday).  Monthly profit related bonus (can be anything from £50 - £300 per month and everyone gets the same amount.)  25 days annual leave, private healthcare, life assurance plus other benefits
